The Design Tribe: A Day of Furniture, Design and Connection in Alexandria

The Design Tribe: A Day of Furniture, Design and Connection in Alexandria

This August, Sydney’s furniture and interior design community will come together for The Design Tribe, a collaborative trade event hosted by Molmic in the heart of Alexandria.

Held on Wednesday, 12 August 2026, the event invites interior designers, architects, stylists and industry professionals to move between multiple showrooms, explore new furniture collections and meet the people behind a curated group of furniture, lighting, textile and homeware brands.

SLH Furniture and Mamagreen will be joining the event for a full day of design discovery, conversation and hospitality—all within the distinctive surrounds of Alexandria’s former Max Brenner chocolate factory.

What Is The Design Tribe?

The Design Tribe is designed as more than a traditional furniture exhibition. Instead of viewing products within a single presentation space, guests are invited to explore the wider Doody Street complex and experience a series of working showrooms, displays and outdoor settings.

It offers an opportunity to see new collections in person, examine materials and finishes, and speak directly with the brands and specialists behind them. For interior designers and other trade professionals, it is also a chance to find products for upcoming projects while reconnecting with Sydney’s wider design community.

The event is hosted by Molmic, a family-owned Australian furniture maker producing upholstered furniture from its Melbourne facility since 1987. Its emphasis on local manufacturing, material selection and enduring craftsmanship provides a fitting foundation for an event centred on furniture and the people who create it.

Explore Furniture for Indoor and Outdoor Spaces

Throughout the day, guests will be able to discover furniture and homeware for a range of residential, commercial and hospitality environments.

SLH Furniture will present contemporary indoor and outdoor pieces selected for their materiality, function and distinctive design. Founded in 1999, SLH has grown from a small Sydney studio into a destination for solid timber furniture and international design brands, with a strong focus on products made for long-term use.

Visitors will also have the opportunity to explore Mamagreen outdoor furniture, including customisable designs created for residential terraces, poolside spaces and commercial projects. The collections combine architectural forms with outdoor-ready materials such as recycled teak, powder-coated aluminium and performance textiles selected for year-round exposure.

For designers working across both interior and exterior environments, The Design Tribe offers a practical way to compare products, experience their scale and comfort, and discuss project requirements directly with the teams representing each collection.

A Design Event Inside Alexandria’s Former Chocolate Factory

The venue brings another layer of character to the day.

The Design Tribe will take place at 15–21 Doody Street, Alexandria, within the former Max Brenner chocolate factory and headquarters. The industrial building has recently undergone an adaptive reuse transformation, retaining its warehouse character while introducing contemporary commercial spaces arranged around an open-air courtyard.

High ceilings, generous windows and the building’s industrial architecture create an atmospheric backdrop for furniture displays, outdoor installations and informal conversations throughout the day.

Rather than moving through a conventional exhibition hall, visitors can explore a collection of individual spaces within one Alexandria design precinct.

Coffee, Pastries and Afternoon Drinks

The day begins with complimentary barista-made coffee, accompanied by a selection of sweet and savoury pastries.

Guests can arrive from 10am, explore the participating showrooms at their own pace and connect with designers, brand representatives and other industry professionals. Afternoon drinks will follow later in the day, creating a more relaxed setting for conversation and networking across the design community.

Whether attending to source furniture for an active project, discover emerging collections or simply reconnect with industry peers, the event is structured to make showroom exploration feel social and unhurried.

A Special Midday Presentation from ReLove

A highlight of the program will be a special midday presentation by ReLove, a Sydney charity giving quality rescued furniture and household items directly to people rebuilding their lives after homelessness, domestic violence or incarceration.

ReLove places dignity and choice at the centre of its work, allowing clients to select the furniture and essentials they need to establish a new home. The organisation also helps divert usable furniture from landfill by working with individuals, furniture retailers and other businesses across Sydney.

The presentation will introduce guests to ReLove’s work and explore how the furniture and design industries can contribute to more socially and environmentally responsible outcomes.

Why Attend The Design Tribe?
