Solid & Sustainable Timber
At SLH, we pride ourselves with the quality of the products that are available in our ranges and Karpenter products are no exception.
Keep on reading to explore what our funriture pieces are made of and how you can care for them.
European Oak
Our European oak is carefully sourced from managed forests and crafted into solid timber furniture. A water-based sealant (no topcoat) preserves its light colour, which naturally deepens toward the heartwood over time. It's a durable, decay-resistant wood that takes fine finishing well.
Care - Clean regularly with a damp then dry cloth. For extra protection, a topcoat can be added — follow the instructions and test on an inconspicuous area first. Keep away from direct sunlight, high-use areas, and heat, air-conditioning, or moisture exposure, as these can cause yellowing and timber movement.
Reclaimed Teakwood (Indoor)
Golden and amber-toned, teakwood is beautiful, extremely durable, and low-maintenance. All our teak is reclaimed from old buildings, arriving with nails and original paint still intact, then restored into furniture with real history.
Care - Clean regularly with a damp then dry cloth. For extra protection, a topcoat can be added — follow the instructions and test on an inconspicuous area first. Keep away from direct sunlight, high-use areas, and heat, air-conditioning, or moisture exposure, as these can cause discolouration and timber movement.
Black Walnut
is loved for its dark heartwood. Its colour is brown with shades of purple and streaks of gold. The wood is hard and durable yet pleasant to work with, and it forms into the highest quality furniture.
Care - Just like any other timber regular cleaning with damp or dry cloth is advised. Avoid areas in direct contact with sunlight, and areas exposed to direct air-conditioning,
Bamboo (Outdoor)
Bamboo is the most sustainable material available: it grows over 1m a day, matures in just 5-6 years (versus 50 for oak), and re-plants itself from the roots. It's also stronger than oak, ash, or beech on the Brinell hardness scale, stays stable in humid conditions, and releases 35% more oxygen while absorbing 30% more CO2 than ordinary wood, all without pesticides or fertilisers.
Care - Oil 3-4 times a year per product instructions; ours arrives factory-treated with fungicide and oil. Bamboo fades naturally with sun and weather, so avoid covers (they trap condensation and cause mould) and keep it clear of trees or organic debris.
Recycled Boat wood
Kleo purchases retired fishing boats (40-50 years old) from Indonesia's northern coast, freeing the shoreline of waste while giving fishermen extra income. The hardwood is stripped of metal, kiln-dried, and upcycled into furniture, sometimes keeping traces of the boats' original paint.
Care - Sturdy and low-maintenance. Avoid harsh chemicals; wipe with a lightly damp cloth to remove dust or debris.
The reclaimed wood used in our production is certified by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC). The FSC stamp guarantees that our furniture is produced in compliance with standards of sustainable forests and plantation management. Solid wood is dynamic and adapts naturally to the environment. This makes it a durable material that will stand the test of time.
SUSTAINABLE CHOICE
Our upcycled hardwood is sourced from decommissioned fishing vessels in North Java, combined with powdercoated steel and other local materials to create unique, eclectic furniture that reduces our carbon footprint.
We also work with a single supplier obtaining teak discards from a government-managed forest, using a head-to-tail approach to craft rustic accent pieces. Natural flaws are celebrated rather than hidden, so nothing ends up burnt or in landfill.
We specialise in timber furniture for residential and hospitality spaces, built to last. Join us on this journey.
