If you’re thinking about updating the décor of your home, keep reading to learn the ways in which you can use a mirror to refresh your home.

How a mirror can transform your home

More and more, people are using mirrors to decorate many rooms in their homes now.  And it’s no wonder, mirrors are both functional and versatile. Some of the reasons people add mirrors to their home include:

                        Practical purposes

Mirrors are first and foremost functional and practical, being used to for grooming, outfit checks and of course getting ready for the day or night.

                        Enhance natural light

A mirror is an easy way to capture and enhance any natural light in your home. Darker rooms can be made to feel lighter and brighter with the addition of a mirror.

                        Add depth and space

When mirrors capture natural light, not only do they make a room blighter and brighter, they can open up a space and make it appear larger and more open. With the right placement, the mirror can act as another window and make the space feel very open.

                        Create warmth

Like their ability to capture natural light, mirrors have an uncanny ability to capture and harness happiness and the coming together of people in the right place.  Mirrors above a fireplace, or in the dining room is perfect to capture the feelings of togetherness.

                        Take place of art

With the wide array of mirror styles available, a mirror can be used to decorate your home and take place of prints or paintings.  Able to used in a variety of ways, you could opt for a large statement making mirror that will rest upon a wall, or you could hang many mirrors and create a gallery wall of mirrors.

Where you can add a mirror in your home

Given a mirror’s versatility, almost any room of your home can be improved with the addition of a mirror. Some of the rooms and ways in which a mirror can enhance them include:

                        Bedroom

One of the more practical places to add a mirror, the bedroom can benefit from this addition in many ways.

A larger mirror can be used to help you get your outfit sorted for the day. Or a smaller one may be right for your space and give you somewhere to do your hair and make up.

You can also enhance the natural light of a bedroom, and perhaps capture the light of the afternoon sun, making the space look brighter and feel larger.

Be careful about the placement though, you don’t want your mirror to reflect the lights of electronics or even streetlights and disrupt your sleep.

                        Living
A living room can benefit from a mirror in a variety of ways. If your living room has lots of natural light, a mirror can increase this even more.  You could hang a mirror perpendicular to a window that captures the natural light and watch that light spread.

The living room is one of the popular areas of a home to use a mirror in place of art or paintings. Painting can be costly and difficult to find one that suits your space. Whereas a mirror is somewhat neutral, yet still enough of a focal point to the draw the eye.  It can also be used to reflect some of the favourite elements of your home.

And if you have a fireplace or mantelpiece in your living space, a mirror hung above this can capture the warmth of a fireplace and make your living room feel more homely.

                        Dining

The dining room is an area where we come together to share a meal with the people we’re closet to. Feeling of happiness and memories are created here, and like we said above, a mirror has an incredible way of capturing these feelings and enhancing them.

You could try hanging a mirror above a console table or sideboard cabinet in this space.

                        Bathroom

Though most bathrooms will have a mirror built in already, if any room of your home could do with multiple mirrors it’s the bathroom.  You can add your own style and twist to this space with a mirror you love, or you can increase the light in this space with the addition of a mirror. Though it’s a room we use for our grooming needs and is the space that we need light the most, it’s usually one of the darker and dingier rooms of any home. But adding a mirror in here to enhance the light can be a way around that.

                        Entryway

Adding a mirror to the entrance of your home is a favourite way to use a mirror for many.  Not only is it practical and lets you have one last check before you leave your home, it’s also great for making your home feel more homely and welcoming.  Above a console table, it can help tie the decorative elements of your home together.

Not only is the mirror decorative, but it can be an extension of you and your style, offering guests a first glimpse of the style of your home and aesthetics.
